We welcome our readers on pages of the blog iCover! Monitors with a touch layer on PCs screens or notebooks today so far exotic. At the same time many will probably agree that to be active a mouse on a large-format panel within the tiled concept of Windows 8-10 OS often it appears, at least, inconveniently and unproductively. Here and in similar cases benefits of a sensor which we is usual very much would be useful and with pleasure daily we use in smartphones and tablets.

Original, simple in implementations and the inexpensive solution allowing to turn the normal screen of the notebook for couple of seconds or the PC in the full-fledged touch display the Swedish company Neonode offered.

On December 16 in Stockholm the Swedish company Neonode specializing in development of interactive touch systems presented an optical sensor of Neonode AirBar which work is based on the principles of the patented zForce AIR technology ™. AirBar represents the miniature strip with magnetic properties which is easily fixed in the lower part of a frame of the display of the notebook or monitor. After connection to USB port usual to you ZhK – the screen working under control of Windows® or Chrome OS ™ purchases all opportunities of touch.

Practically any touches are supported by any subject

AirBar is completed with the linear projector of a light field working, most likely, in the Infrared range. And the system will recognize a touch of any object crossing its light field. According to developers, Neonode AirBar practically does not consume system resources and is activated right after connection, without the need for installation of drivers. On feelings and speed of a response the working AirBar is quite comparable with the capacity screen of modern tablets.

Demonstration video impresses: the device works smoothly, quickly, steadily, Moultitouch, gestures and touches different objects is active. And it is valid, probably innovation quite keeps within a framework of the concept of "it just works".

Externally AirBar looks very compactly and practically merges with a notebook screen frame

As the senior vice-president for development of business of Neonode Rimo Bekhdasht (Rimo Behdasht), AirBar tells on one of the websites of the company projects an invisible flow of a light field on a display surface that allows to interact with the OS interface by means of a touch. The Neonode technology in zForce AIR ™ opens an opportunity to use not only a finger, but also any convenient improvised material as all is equal to a light field that causes perturbation in a zone of its action, as well as whether you use it in business trip, at school, on travel. In addition to reaction to a traditional touch, with AirBar also such useful opportunities as scrolling and scaling, reaction to gestures of the user are available. At the same time any flares and pollution from fingerprints (at contactless influence).

It is a little about the zForce® technology

The device implementing technology of optical sounding Neonode in zForce™ consists of a set of detectors and light emitters, the optical light guide with lenses and the touch IC controller connected to a host. The technology does not impose any special requirements to design of the display and its covering, providing 100% optical transparency of a window and the high image quality without any artificially created flares is stable. Authors of innovation emphasize that features of optical technology of sounding provide a number of essential benefits in comparison with the existing touch and contactless techniques, such as cameras, the IR-port, resistive and capacity screens. Simplicity of the principle used in Neonode in zForce™ significantly reduces resource intensity and cost value of a final solution, expanding at the same time borders of opportunities for its application in mobile phones, gadgets of wearable technologies, the PC, notebooks, printers and others.

As the principles of technology are based on optical effects, efficiency of AirBar practically does not depend on electrical noises. At the same time the unique touch IC NN1002 controller, using complex systems of filtering at the hardware level, in combination with the filtering performed by optical and program methods allows to receive the system which is completely protected from influence of noises from surrounding light sources. At the same time the range of temperatures at which the system shows stable working parameters is limited by thresholds of -40 °C to + 85 °C.

It is important that the technology works at any type of the display and with surfaces of displays of any form, including concave surfaces. For convenience of the user and in order to avoid pollution of the screen in many cases useful is a non-contact method of "a contact in air". Use of one more valuable benefit of Neonode AirBar – an opportunity to work regularly also at immersion in water that is absolutely unacceptable for a capacity sensor is in the long term possible.

The official announcement of Neonode AirBar will take place within the CES 2016 exhibition (Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, on January 6-8, 2016. And it is possible to order Neonode AirBar for the notebook with the screen 15.6" on the website of the vendor. The price by the preorder of $49.
