Already some time of technology allow to manage the house from the smartphone or the tablet. In the last several years the flood of different devices fell upon the western markets, and at the same time the considerable part of them allows to collect DIY the smart house without possessing at the same time engineering education. If you decide on it, you will need to think over at first as you will integrate devices, i.e. to think over design of future system, otherwise you will simply walk smack.

Emergence of Apple HomeKit and its analogs gives the chance to integrate the devices communicating among themselves in one house ecosystem. But currently universal standards are not developed for the set of devices that slows down development of the industry a little in general.

War of standards

It is the simplest to give an example of a set of standards on the most familiar user of part of the smart house is a heating system for which thermostats are used in each house for a long time and almost in the USA and Europe therefore they are not bad familiar to the ultimate user. Perhaps, Nest which offers the smart fire warning and the thermostat became the most popular because of the appearance. However exists about a poludyuzhina of similar solutions, any of which does not mean interchangeability of components. So, the British Gas company started the large advertizing company of the Hive system at the beginning of this year. Also there are at least three more alternatives — Lyric, Tado, and Passiv Systems. All of them are intended for control of system of heating and at the same time they use different protocols, so among themselves their components are incompatible.

If to abstract from system of heating, everything will become much more interesting. Already now it is possible to find smart teapots, coffee machines, sensors of watering of plants and washing machines which can be controlled from the smartphone. It is already a lot of though the Internet of things promised us much more. But here in what a problem: not the fact that all of them will communicate in a single system. Most of all chances that each gadget will lead own life in the stand-alone program, such as the washing machine of Samsung. Whether the fact that she will respond where you were on the planet is convenient, on your command to start washing? Conveniently. But whether it is convenient to switch between applications as if digging in badly tidied up cabinet to start this or that device?

Truce

To conciliate one of options among themselves devices and sensors — to use a hub for the smart house. For example, the hub of Wink is compatible almost to all leading brands. Thus, LED lamps with the built-in sensors and management from GE or Philipps, the same Nest, Quirky or Tapt switches – all of them can be managed from the uniform application or from the special wall Wink Relay Controller panel. The hub of Wink supports the Bluetooth protocols, Z-Wave®, ZigBee®, Wi-Fi®, Lutron® Clear Connect®.

Insteon hub also gains popularity and his developers develop own product line. For quite some time now the hub is delivered from the built-in Apple's HomeKit. Similar integration allows to use voice actuation with Siri for control of home devices.

As the option, gains popularity of Z-Wave — the wireless protocol of automation using the frequency of 908.42 MHz. Already more than one thousand names of devices work at this protocol. This protocol uses mesh technology which means that the given command is transmitted through all devices, will not reach yet the device to which it is addressed. It allows it to use not enough electric power and gives ample opportunities for automation even of big houses. Most often for work with the protocol devices on batteries are used.

The open standard of the ZigBee protocol for the Internet of things also consumes not enough energy and supports mesh technology. ZigBee Alliance works on the standard, improves it and sets as the purpose to give the most convenient chance to devices to interact among themselves (interoperability).

Other systems and standards also fight for a place in the sun. Who will occupy a big share of the market – will show time.

Of course, all devices could be integrated also on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. It would seem why to invent new standards. But the problem is that, for example the success of Wi-fi was also its Achilles' heel. Network, a set of devices, united in one Wi-fi, reduce efficiency of all system. Besides, unlike new standards which can manage devices on batteries Wi-Fi "guzzles" energy. Therefore it will not manage to be used for the big smart house, a set of devices and, at last, devices on batteries – namely on them, for example, it is accepted to do smart door locks.

Bluetooth, in turn, the good fellow, but he also demands more energy, than new standards and possesses a bigger delay of a response.

Summary

When developing own system in which you want to turn on smart devices consider a difference of standards and or select the corresponding hub, or select the devices using one of new standards which allows to save energy and it is intended especially for use in smart houses. Then you will be able to manage all devices from one convenient application – for example, the iRidium Mobile application which not only will allow you to create any design from the simple visual designer, but also possesses the interface in Russian.
