1 year, 11 months ago

On Geektimes already many times wrote about the project of Google corporation on providing inhabitants of hardly accessible remote regions of our planet with communication. Representatives of the company consider as a way out Project Loon: a network of the powerful access points suspended on stratospheric aerostats. Thus, one aerostat can provide with a covering of a wireless network rather big region. In a stratosphere such aerostats can hang for months now. A record is permanent soaring in an upper atmosphere within 130 days. By the way, interesting fact: in one aerostat of Google it is necessary to download the volume of gas which would be enough for 7000 normal balloons.

Despite scepticism of some specialists, the project develops. In 2016 developers of the project are going to bring number of the started aerostats to 300 pieces, having placed the flying access points worldwide. The idea consists in providing an uninterrupted covering of certain regions. If one aerostat moves, another right there arrives to its place. Now the command is going to develop a network of aerostats in the Southern hemisphere and if the project is performed, then the first clients on a commercial basis will be connected to a wireless network though the network and will work in the test mode. Now representatives of Project Loon conduct active negotiations with providers of Indonesia.
